Aqualyx® treatment is a fat dissolving injection that works by liquidating fat cells and destroying them permanently. The broken down cells are then eliminated naturally through the lymphatic system.
This treatment is performed by our specially trained Aqualyx® injectors and is an excellent treatment for those looking to treat their double-chin area to target stubborn, localised fat. Please note that Aqualyx® fat dissolving injection is a body contouring treatment, not a weight loss solution. Are fat-dissolving injections safe?
Aqualyx® is a safe and effective fat dissolving procedure. Over 2 million treatments have been performed worldwide so far and there has not been one single incidence of overdose, toxic effects or any major untreatable side effects has been recorded. Aqualyx® contains substances that occur naturally in the body and aid in the breakdown and absorption of dietary fat. These are safe to use and are naturally broken down by the body over time.

What does the treatment involve?
You will have a consultation with one of our Aqualyx® experts. If you are deemed suitable for treatment and wish to go ahead then the treatment can be perfomed on the same day as consultation. On the day of treatment, the area to be treated is marked out. The Aqualyx® solution is prepared and then a number of injections are administered to ensure the area of fat to be removed is fully covered. After treatment the doctor will manipulate / massage the areas and you will have to continue this massage at home for several days after your treatment You will experience swelling /discolouration of the skin and tenderness, on most occasions you will have some bruising. The area will feel tender for 7- 10 days and appear swollen for this time. You will require 2 or 3 treatments, with improvement normally becoming visible after the second treatment. ​

Is it painful?
As with all treatments that involve needles, the injections may sting for a few seconds, but generally, pain is minimal. We also always offer the option of applying a topical numbing agent to the treatment area to minimise discomfort. ​The procedure is generally not uncomfortable and most patients report discomfort levels of 1-3 on a scale of 1-10 (10 being severe).

How quickly will I see results following fat dissolving injections?
Results can be seen after four to five weeks. There is often swelling following treatment so once that has settled down you will start to see some results.

Are there side effects?
Side effects are rare. You may experience swelling, bruising, itching, pain, sensitivity to pressure and excessive warmth at the injection site however, this is usually resolved within three to seven days.

Is everyone suitable for fat dissolving injections?
Fat dissolving injections are not recommended for women who are pregnant or breastfeeding. It is also not recommended for those who have lipodystrophy or any pathological conditions. If you are unsure if this treatment is recommended for you, please get in touch. We also do not recommend the treatment for severely overweight individuals as this is intended as a targeted treatment for small pockets of fat.

How do do fat dissolving injections work?
Aqualyx® is injected directly into the fat tissue. The molecule is encased in a sugar coating which helps to release the substance slowly and minimise side effects. After dissolution of the targeted fat cells, the body expels the fatty acids naturally through the urine. Following treatment, you will experience swelling and redness in the area where the fat has been dissolved for a few weeks. This starts to settle after a few days and is normally gone in 3-4 weeks. You may have some discomfort, but this is not usually severe. A little bruising is expected. You should not exercise for 5 days. A low-fat diet can help to increase the effectiveness of Aqualyx®. While results can’t be compared to surgical liposuction, where large amounts of fat are permanently removed from the body, the results of Aqualyx® are still permanent. As with all injectible therapies there is no guarantee of fully successful treatment. Some patients get good results from a single treatment, but many required 2-3 treatments for facial areas. The recommended interval between repeat treatment is 4-6 weeks.
